Art for me is at times one way to exercise my interest in creatively applying the concept of recycling, challenging myself to stay open to the potential gifts that the universe offers throughout a typical normal day as I go to work and focus on mundane activities.
Staying on the lookout for new tools, fabrics, unexpected resources to play around with and have fun with, makes each day an adventure in the style of child-like possibility. My mantra is “Hmmm… I wonder what I might do with this. I may just leave it laying around awhile to see what comes to me to try.”
Such is the story of these experimental drawings on braille paper. One of the “hats” I wear is as a caretaker for seniors. One senior I work for happens to be blind. When I was asked to recycle a braille magazine I decided to bring it home for recycling, which I did. But the recycling turned out to be other than just dumping it into the recycling bin. I put it with my art supplies to experiment with. I tried crayon and a permanent marker so far. Thinking about trying watercolor paints next.
